The Nominations Have Spoken….Who is Going to Take the Award Home ?

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am back for another post. This week, we are discussing the recent nominations that have come out for the NAACP Image Awards and the Oscars.

I don’t know if you remember, but last year, I asked the Oscar committee when we would get things right by offering awards to deserving actors of color.

And maybe they heard us because the nominations are in, and we are in categorIes not only once but twice.

But, I am not sure y'all because these nominations are still looking scarce.

We still have some time to see who will win, but in the meantime, we should celebrate those nominated, as it is an honor.

But, there needs to be more representation in these nominations moving forward!

Starting in no particular order, I think we should discuss the recent Oscar nominations released on Wednesday.

For those who love Sterling K. Brown, you’d be proud to know he received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in “American Fiction.” And, let me let you know if you haven’t seen the movie; you need to ASAP. Brown provides range in his acting skills, giving us a fresh take on how strong his acting game is overall.

Da’Vine Randolph was nominated for an Oscar Nomination for her supporting role in the show “The Holdovers.” And, while I haven’t seen the show yet if her acting is as good as her fashion game has been these past few weeks, then I know she is winning all the way. She has been killing the press scene, shutting us down with each outfit left and right.

Another person we have to offer their flowers to is Jeffrey Right, who is nominated for his Oscar nomination for his leading role in “American Fiction.” And, as I told you above, the movie is on fire, so please check it out in the movie theaters before it is unavailable anymore.

My girl in my head, Danielle Brooks, a.k.a. Taystee, also received an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in “The Color Purple.” And, it was a deserving nomination, to say the least; the girl straight-nailed Sofia in the remake. The role was made for her, and she gave it all!

Check out the complete list on the Oscars website for the rest of the Oscar nominations.

What movie from the one I mentioned above did you enjoy?

It’s now time to discuss the nominees included in the NAACP Image Awards, and they are hefty!

For Entertainer of the Year, Colman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, Keke Palmer, and Usher have all been nominated. And, y’all, I don’t think I can choose one of them because they are all deserving and have brought straight fire to 2023.

From being the little mermaid to the reincarnation of Usher every year to the power of Keke “Keep a Job” Palmer, we are in for a full treat!

For Outstanding Motion Picture, the nominations include but are not limited to “American Fiction, Origin, Rustin, The Color Purple, and They Cloned Tyrone.”

And, child, that’s a category I am ready to see who will win. I have seen 3/5 so far, and I am going this weekend to catch "Origin" before it is out of the box office.

But, even further, the artists are receiving nominations as well.

For Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap song, the nominations include but are not limited to Lil Durk, Vic Mensa, Burna Boy, 21 Savage, and Megan Thee Stallion.

But it doesn’t stop there for Outstanding Album; the nominations include Drake, Burna Boy, Victoria Monet, Janelle Monae, and Summer Walker.

Listen, we are in for a treat! If you’re looking for the complete nominations list, head to the NAACP Image Awards website for more!

Well, we’ve got a good award season in front of us!

Let me know in the comments below who do you think should win. What movies, artists, or shows are missing from this list?

Did the Oscars do a better job than last year?

If not, what do they need to do next year?

Well, I’ll see y’all in two weeks!

Peace and Prosperity,

Jadis “IHateAdulthood” DeShong-Venay
