Ladies and Gentlemen, I sincerely apologize for my missed post last week!
But I am back and ready to discuss everything happening in our world!
Since we’ve been discussing fashion so much, I thought we could take a break and discuss some things going down our timeline this past week.
As a result, I am giving you another social media recap for the week of October 1-6, 2023!
First, Let’s Talk Politics:
On Wednesday, CNN released breaking news that Republican Kevin McCarthy was removed from being the Speaker of the House in a Historic Vote (CNN, 2023).
They reported that his removal was so historic that it had yet to happen since 1910.
I don’t know if you have been paying attention to the news the past three weeks, but America almost experienced another government shutdown.
With less than 24 hours to pass a bill that could save thousands of federal employees, federal funding, and protection of government programs, the House and Senate did what they could to keep us for an extra 45 days.
But, in the middle of all of this going on, a scandal broke out in the Republican party, and as a result, McCarthy lost his power.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican, filed a “motion to vacate,” after no rescue, McCarthy lost his seat and stated he would never run again for the position.
For those who may not know who Kevin McCarthy is, he is a Republican from California who won the House speakership after 15 rounds of votes and replaced Nancy Pelosi for one of the shortest tenures as House speaker.
Now, the only question everyone is wondering is, “Who will be our next speaker of the house?”
What are your thoughts? Was removing McCarthy wise, or is our government setting us up for trouble?
Secondly, Let’s Talk Love:
I don’t know about you all, but I love a good reality show.
And, if you add dating, I am locked in and ready for all of the ins and outs of the show with popcorn.
It’s how I felt when I watched Queens Court, starring Tamar Braxton, Nivea, and Evelyn Lozada.
And it’s precisely what I received when two of the three women found love on the show.
But, it has come to my attention that one of the couples has called it quits.
After months of engagement, I am sad to report that Tamar Braxton and Jeremy Robinson have ended their relationship.
And it has Instagram and Black Twitter in an uproar.
I read statements like, “I never trusted him for Tamar, or Tamar is always hopping into relationships too quickly.”
But these statements made me wonder, “Do we live with these people we talk about on the internet?”
Because I know I don’t.
Yes, we meet individuals from their reality shows and get glimpses of who they are and how they act, but TV is for entertainment purposes.
And, if shows are not entertaining, there is no point in watching.
So, do they give an accurate depiction of who people indeed are?
If they do, then the statements above may be factual. But if they don’t, then who are we to judge when someone ends a relationship?
Let me know your thoughts. Is it similar to the idea that we should be left out of the group chat when individuals end relationships with one another?
Or, am I missing something?
Lastly, let’s talk about Journalism:
After a monumental amount of time, someone has finally been charged with the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur.
Duane “Keefe D” has been charged and will enter a plea for his charges in less than two weeks.
Black Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook have shared an outcry of support for Shakur’s family as they received some hope that answers would be given for their brother/uncle/cousin’s death.
But, it has also left many wondering why it took so long to charge Keefe D with involvement in the shooting.
Why is it 2023, and we are now receiving a possible conviction?
It has left many wondering if there was a good enough investigation.
But, also, individuals have wondered, after all of the interviews and his book, why is Keefe D is only now seeing his day in court?
What do you think? Has it been too long? Was there too much evidence for it to take so much time for a charge to be given?
Or, do you think otherwise?
Well, that has been my recap of the past week. Let me know your thoughts below. I will respond later to any comments, and we can have a more open dialogue.
Until next time!
Peace & Prosperity,
Jadis “IHateAdulthood” DeShong-Venay
